What Are Solar Lights?

Solar lights are a great way to light your yard at night for your enjoyment. They can be used in flower beds, around ponds and add extra light to your outdoor entertaining area. They can also be used to light your pathway as a guide or to add extra security to your property. How they work is as simple as can be. During the day, the solar cell or solar panel gathers energy from the sun, it is then stored in a Nicad battery. As it gets dark a photoresistor, which is used to detect when it is dark, will automatically turn the light on using the energy which has been stored during the day. Each individual light has a solar cell on top, a single Nicad battery, a small control board and Led light source and a photoresistor which detects darkness all in one plastic case. The beauty of solar lights is that they are completely free standing and the spikes can be pushed into your lawn, garden beds or strategically placed planters. They can also be screwed in walls or mounted on railings or fascias. There are no wires or cables to worry about and no need to use electricity or gas cylinders and candle and torches will be a thing of the past. One of the best things about solar lights is that anyone can install the lights in a matter of minutes. The only real requirement is that they are in a position where they get full sunlight all day. Rainy nights, garden hoses and fountains are not a problem as the lights are in a plastic casing they can be used in all types of weather and situations without any worries. There is a good range of different solar lights to suit your needs. Security lights on a longer stem will make sure normally darker areas are well lit and there are even lights to illuminate house numbers which are often hard to see in the dark. For the garden there are styles to match any theme or decor from small modern lights to light up garden beds, rockeries and ponds to taller styles for paths etc. These can be anything from a classical light to those resembling lights from bygone eras when streets were lit by “candle power” and housing by lanterns. If you search around you can even find novelty lights such as mushroom and gnome lights. For something a little different solar powered water features are a wonderful way to light up your pond or even your swimming pool with floating lights adding a different look and solar fountains giving a well lit display of falling water. Easy to install and very cost effective, solar lights will not only light up your yard, garden or pond but they can also give you the added security of being able to see you path, steps and surrounding areas.
